Along the Nile...

As it's all snowy and below 0 C° out there in my garden, I thought I might hot things up a little with a few shots I took in Egypt two years ago. I had always wanted to see the great pyramids and the Nile... and I did. The cruise was awesome, but what I liked most there was the people. But not the people from the big cities, those from the inner villages. They were so friendly and happy to meet strangers. Also, ladies, if you haven't already been there, get ready to be proposed like 5 times a day! how direct guys are when hitting on girls over there! "Hello, my name is Akil, are you married?" I will always remember this boy who followed our little boat just swimming besides and hanging himself on once in a while. Or these little girls in a small village who were so cute I gave them my lipstick and mirror...

The Tie Theory...

Hi everyone, my name is Mary and I'm a tieaholic.
Being a tieaholic ain't an easy addiction I have to admit. Once you've tried one on, that's pretty hard to stop wearing them. Yeah, I have to tell you I don't wear them only with shirts or for when I worked for Ralph Lauren... I kinda love wearing ties with practically anything. But my favorite way to wear them is on strapless dresses and as a simple neck accessory. I love them in silk, thin cotton, blue, dark blue, with small stripes... Oh and yeah I'm actually the one who taught my brothers how to tie a tie...
I just love men accessories. Hats, suspenders, glasses, bow ties and, of course, ties... Damn I wish I were Don Draper sometimes...

When I'm a man, I'll be a firefighter...

That station was right in front of my appartment in NY. No need to tell I just enjoyed every morning when I got out to go to work, with a charming "Hello Miss" shout from the other side of the street... Ok that may be a little cliché to like firefighters, but fuck it, they're brave, hot, hot and did I mention they're hot? D was a young recruit there. We got to talk a lot. He was from Kentucky, and new in the city. What's funny is that me, the French girl, eventually ended up becoming his guide in the City. I remember how excited he was everytime he talked about his job. "Last night I got to drive the fire engine!" "You should have seen that accident on Madison, that was... horribly awesome". Anyway, I liked that 83rd street with the nice firefighters, the hillarious Mexican laundromat guys, who had no idea I spoke Spanish and understood everything they said...
Back to the picture. I'm glad I got to shoot "Trouble", the Dalmatian, the station's dog. He was so sweet. I also like that little boy with his dad. While daddy's talking to the Chief, the kid is touching the huge red truck, we can feel how impressed and excited he is. So this post is for all the firefighters in the world. Great job, and well... great outfit...

Ginger-Breakfast...

Ok, so I'm not sure Gingerbread actually did bring our breakfast up to our room that morning, coz to be honest, the night before remains a little fuzzy... yeah, that's pretty much how it ends in L.A after 2 am.

Somewhere in Nevada...

Some prefer fancy shinny new cars... I got a thing for vintage ones, yeah... sometimes really old ones...

What's your favorite scary movie...

So this weekend, my friends and I were hanging out watching horror movies. Yeah I know, Halloween's over, but a shitty grey and rainy weekend is just perfect to crash, eat, drink and give the creeps to your friends. So we got to reminisce about the very first horror movie we saw. I remember mine. I was 7. It was Psycho. Many moments in that film marked my brain. Like, the house behind the motel, the famous shower scene, or when Norman talks all alone. No spoiler alert there right, who hasn't seen Psycho! But, one scene that really touched me, is when Janet Leigh is driving at night shortly after the beginning of the movie, all stressed out, looking at her rear view mirror, knowing she did something bad, both excited and scared. Because at this moment you know she's still safe and that she could run away with all the money, but you also feel she's just about to live something terrible, you just can feel it. You don't know what yet, but you can feel it. So that's when your imagination knows no limit and starts inventing creeping scenario... Oh and did I mention that my older brothers forced me to watch it tough I was 7 and completely terrified hidding myself behind the living room cushions... And it was just the beginning, yeah... then came Predator, Alien, The Shinning, The Silence of the Lambs... So, I'm gonna ask you one question -yeah, the same question the fucked-up teen weirdo asked on the phone with his white mask on in Scream... What's your favorite scarie movie?

'Bout the picture: I shot it on a store on Hollywood Boulevard, L.A 2005.

S P Q R...

Firenze is the home town of the brand Salvatore Ferragamo. The wonderful museum - overlooking the Arno river- is about the designer and all his work. Since I'm a shoe addict, you guys must imagine how I felt in front of all the amazing shoes! But I won't post a picture of shoes. Nope. What I liked most there, was the massive stone panel near the entry. Just looking at it you know you're in Italy. You know, it's the typical Roman Empire signature. It makes me think about Ridley Scott's Gladiator -the best movie ever FYI- You know the letters S P Q R marked on almost everything to show the strengh and power of the Empire... Anyway, this stone is talking to us..." shhh, you are about to enter the Shoe Empire".

Early morning in London...

I stayed a little while in London last year. On-the-record? I was supposed to look for a job... Off-the-record... I hung out, took photos and just blew off some steam. I love this street. I shot that picture just stepping out of my friend's home - the exact same little brick house you can see here. I like how countryside the street looks. It makes me think of Ken Loach's movies like Sweet Sixteen or Kes. Just looking at this picture you can imagine all the stories that happened in this district. It also reminds me of my 8th-grade-pen-friend Samantha's house. Being a roomy with C, K and L was memorable. The walls of the house were so thin, you just felt we were all in the same room all the time! Which was kinda cool for cocktail hours, less cooler when K would bring home a new not-very-quiet girl for the night... Anyways, London was awesome. I have only one more thing to say... Cheers!

Resting "à la française"...
